.: TomTom Rider V2

The TomTom Rider
was one of the first dedicated motorcycle satalite navigation systems to be offered. Before the Rider was various systems, clamped onto the motorcycle with differing degrees of success. TomTom are now onto version two of their award winning system. They have developed and redesigned much of the rider which is now a very reliable sturdy device.
If you are familiar with the TomTom Go family for your car, then this would the obvious system for your motorcycle. It is easy to set up and use. The screen is so clear that you do not *have* to rely on hearing the spoken voice. However, the instructions are given to the rider via theprovided high quality Cardo Scala-rider wireless bluetooth headset. This is also very easy to set up.
The Rider comes in two versions, a regional (Great Britain) and Europe version. This choice is ideal, if you only ride your bike in the British Isles and Northern Ireland, then go for the slightely cheaper regional version. Other than the mapping they are identical but if you need to, you could buy the European maps at a later date. Of course, if you go into europe a lot, then start out with the European version.
.: Garmin Zumo

Like the TomTom Rider, Garmin have a device that is specificly designed for use on a motorcycle. It comes in various levels of specification to cater for most bikers needs. Garmin offer the Zumo at different levels, they have regional and European units:
Zumo 400 - Regional
Zumo 450 - European
Zumo 500 - European with bluetooth
Zumo 550 - European with bluetooth & use in car
As most of the Zumo range do not come with a bluetooth headset, you wil have to either use the device using images only, buy a headset such as the Cardo, or use a dedicated bluetooth helmet. Because of this, some suppliers are offering bundles which include a Cardo headset. The price of the Zumo has been falling recently making it a very cometative unit for the serious touring biker.
